Traditional Games
Kite
A kite is a thin
sheet of skeletal material that is flown into the air and connected to a rope
or thread to the mainland or the controller. Kites use the power of wind gusts
as a lifting tool and are widely known throughout the world as a game tool. In addition
to being one of the games that are often played by children and adults, kites
are believed to also have ritual functions such as tools for fishing or
trapping, becoming scientific research aids, and alternative energy media. Theres
are various types of kite games, in sundanese kites as maen langlayangan. Although the most common are decorative kites if
in betawi it is called koang and kites fight match. In addition, there are also
kites that are given a filter and can make a sound due to wind gusts.
Kite games usually
played by children during transition period because of the strong wind blowing
at that time will make the kites fly high. In west java, lampung and several
other places in Indonesia, kites are used as fishing aids. This kite is made of
woven leaves of a certain type of orchid and is connected with a hook. Whereas in
Pangandaran and several other places for example, kites are fitted with snares
which are useful for catching kalong
or bats. Giants kites from synthetic materials have now been tried to be a tool
to save on the use of transport vessels. When the wind blows hard, the ship
will spread a giant screen like a kite that will “pull” the ship so that it saves
fuel use in the sea.
