Sundanese Ethnic
The Sundanese are
an Austronesian ethnic group native to the western part of the Indonesian
island of java. Ethnic Sundanese are the second largest ethnic group in
Indonesia after ethnic Javanese. Sundanese ethnicity is known as the tatar
pasundan covering the western part of java. Comes from the word sund or suddha
in Sanskrit which means bright, white and shining. The majority of these ethnic
are moslem, but there are also a small number of Christians, hindus and even
wiwitan Sundanese. In Sundanese ethnic jaipong dance is very popular. When
urban communities enjoy modern dance more, Sundanese ethnic communities hold a
very strong culture that has been passed down from ancestors. This jaipong
dance is often encountered during big events.
Sundanese ethnic
or commonly called ‘urang sunda’ has unique habits, one of them uses an
additional sentence of teh or mah in each sentence, like ‘saya mah asli sunda,
orang tua mah asli sono’. One of Sundanese ethnic musical instruments is
angklung. Angklung is a waditra tool or art made of special bamboo discovered
by Mr. Daeng Sutigna around 1938. One of Sundanese food is peuyeum bandung.
Peuyeum in Indonesian called tape. Peuyeum or tape is a typical food made from
steamed cassava then cooled, then sprinkled with special yeast and fermented
into tape. In Sundanese ethnic, known as pamali or prohibition. Pamali can be
interpreted as abstinence from things that according to tradition should not be
done intentionally. If this is done it will cause disasters or events that are
not good for those who violate.
